Hickory Small Animal Hospital offers a wide variety of preventative and therapeutic medications for your pet. From annual visits to disease therapy, you can feel good knowing Hickory Small Animal has your pet's best interest in mind. Our goal is to stay current with the most recent medical protocols to ensure your pet receives the best care. We also offer 3 year vaccinations for several dog and cat diseases. This means no unncessary antigenic exposure to your pet and a financial savings to you.

Not all vaccines are created equal. Hickory Small Animal Hospital designed its vaccine protocol with your pet's best interest in mind. All feline vaccines are non-adjuvanted reducing the incidence of vaccine induced fibrosarcomas. Our canine Leptospira vaccine covers 4 serovars. We also use labeled 3 yr core vaccines for both the dog and cat.

Hickory Small Animal Hospital has an in-house chemistry, blood cell counter and blood clotting time analyzers. Our chemistry machine can run numerous test including blood electrolytes, thyroid hormone, and bile acids. The blood cell counter is able to quantify the pet's red blood cells, platelets and a 5 part differential for the animal's white blood cells. Our blood clotting times analyzer can detect rodenticide toxicity or other diseases than can elevate clotting times. We also have an digital tonometer to detect and help manage glaucoma. Our radiology suite contains an in-house x-ray machine and automatic processor for quick results of your pet's diagnostic needs. Should your pet require advanced diagnostics, our outside lab can process the tests and have the results usually overnight. We have also recently added in-house canine pregnancy blood testing.

From elective to emergency surgeries, Hickory Small Animal Hospital offers a wide range of surgical procedures. All patients are maintained on oxygen and gas anesthesia during surgery. We also use a pulse oximetry and heart rate monitor during all surgeries to ensure your pet does not have any anesthetic complications. Our electrosurgical unit cauterized while cuts offering excellent hemorrhage control without the added expense of laser surgery. Hickory Small Animal also offers cryosurgery for the treatment of small epidermal growths without the need for anesthesia.

Your pet's dental health is very important to a pets overall condition. Long standing dental tartar can result in bad breath, tooth root abscesses, tooth loss, pain, heart disease and kidney disease. We will work with you to establish a plan to help prevent dental tartar from forming on your pet's teeth. Should your pet acquire dental tartar, we offer dental cleanings consisting of a ultrasonic scaling followed by a polishing.

Going out of town and need a place to board your pet? We pride ourselves on offering a comfortable environment for your pets during their stay. Dogs and cats are always housed in separate rooms. Our dog boarders are walked in our play yard 3 times per day individually and housed indoors in our climate controlled kennel. All cat accommodations are "Cat Condos". Should your pet require medication, you can feel comfortable knowing that your pet will get their medications under the guidance of a veterinarian. After hours pickup on the weekends and holidays is available.

Hickory Small Animal Hospital offers standard and medicated baths for dogs and cats. We also offer dipping for skin conditions such as ringworm, demodectic and sarcoptic mange.

Our professional groomers have 24 yrs experience in grooming dogs of all breeds. Grooming is scheduled on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Call today to make an appointment.
